Joint Scientific Activities

The EAPCCT regularly organizes joint meetings with the European Community (EC) and the World Health Organization (WHO), particularly through the auspices of the International Programme on Chemical Safety (IPCS), which is a joint undertaking of WHO, International Labour Organisation (ILO) and United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).

ASHT
The EAPCCT is a partner in the development of an alerting system for chemical health threats for the European Commission (ASHT II). A brief project overview is available here ( Czech, Russian, Estonian, Lithuanian, Latvian and Polish).
To inform about the progress of the project, the working group publishes a regular ASHT-Newsletter.
Currently available is No. 1 ( English, Estonian, Latvian, Lithuanian, Polish, Russian, Slovenian).

The EAPCCT also works closely with the American Academy of Clinical Toxicology (AACT) and co-sponsors the Journal of Toxicology - Clinical Toxicology.

The EAPCCT and the AACT have produced a series of Position Statements on gut decontamination and elimination techniques. These consensus documents are evidence based and are intended to improve even further the management of poisoned patients:

Ipecac Syrup
Single-Dose Activated Charcoal
Multi-Dose Activated Charcoal
Cathartics
Whole Bowel Irrigation
Gastric Lavage
Urine Alkalinization

The EAPCCT is a member of the International Union of Toxicology (IUTOX): their web site is located at http://www.toxicology.org/index.asp

EAPCCT COMMITTEES and WORKING GROUPS

Standing Committees are formal Committees of the Association and advise the Board on specific ongoing areas of activity e.g. Congresses, Finance, Publications and Position Statements. Working Groups are more informal but also provide advice to the Board on new areas of activity. The President from time to time also appoints ad hoc committees to report on specific issues.

Members who are interested to join one of the EAPCCT Committees or Working Groups should inform the President.
